AUSTRALIA DAY

AUSTRALIA DAY
It is Australia Day here in Holland and Sam, Monique, Jason and I are out and about town wearing bright yellow jersey's. Although you can't see them as it is -5 today and we have four layers on.
Just about to head home where the boys have a tree trunk and a saw and will proceed to make a cricket bat for our Netherlands/Australia Test Match (it is snowing right now and hopefully continues through to the cricket game)
We have lots of beer, sausages and memories to play on so should make for a great night.
HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY!!!

Our time in Maastricht

So we've been in Maastricht and so far accomplished quite a bit (I think). We have set up a bank account, got the cheapest phone card ever, have navigated our way amongst the city including weaving our way through the medievil walls and Jason has tried nearly every beer available.

We went to Den Haag on Wednesday for an appointment with the real estate - and YES we have a beautiful place lined up and we move in on the 1st of March. It is a fully renovated two bedroom unit with white wash floors, old fire place (not in use but very pretty for putting photo frames on) and new appliances and stained glass windows. It is under construction and we are the very first to move into it.

All is well, here in Maastricht and Sam and Monique have now arrived so it's a very cosy four people living in Michaels studio apartment.

Photos will be posted soon

The flight and Maastricht

Yes Mum, I do cook.
With Jason's help
Mmmmm. Dinner
This one is taken by Jason in the Park.
My new green hat - I love it!
So on Thursday the 11th of January at some ridiculous hour we headed to the airport with a tribe of people. Jason's parents (aiti and isa) my parents (mum and dad), my sister and her husband (Jasmine and Nathan), Jason's sister and her partner (Renee and Jethro) my best friend (Sarah aka Fergie and her boyfriend Paul) and our friends from Finland that are in Australia visiting from the wedding.

We checked our luggage - with no problems (phew!) and then it was time to say our goodbyes. I thought I would be strong however, I started with my Mum which was the worst strategical move to make. I WAS A MESS! and lucky last, my Dad (who will kill me for this) HE CRIED! Woohoo, I have never seen him cry before. I don't know whether it was that I was going or possibly tears of relief.......the financial burden has finally been lifted.

The flight was arduous, yet we made it perfectly safe and fine to Amsterdam airport and then flopped on our bed at the Hilton and fell asleep before we could even get changed.

On Saturday we made our way to our friend's house in Maastricht. This is at the bottom of Holland only Ten minutes on the train to Belgium. He is currently in Australia on Holiday and we are staying at his super cute studio apartment.

Here are photos of our first week in Maastricht
including our first meal as husband and wife, my new green hat and us in winter clothes which is quite a novelty for Brisbanites (especially Jason who apparently never gets cold - yeah right).

Enjoy

Our Wedding

Jason finally stopped crying enough to get his vows out (me too!)

Signing our lives away

The Reception was in the Fountain Court with heaps of candles in Martini glasses.

Very Chic!

Our "punishing" fireworks were choreagraphed to classical music.......of course.

My bridesmaids doing a great rendition of "Like a Virgin" with actions from my Hens Night.

We got married on the 6th of January 2007. It was a beautiful summers day filled with family, friends and most important.......a husband. Our ceremony and reception was held at Hope Island Golf Club in Sanctuary Cove on the Gold Coast. It was everything we could have dreamed of and more. We even had Fireworks!

We had four days after the wedding to organise our lives and then we moved to the Netherlands.

That is where our adventure begins, stay posted to see how our little life in Holland is paning out.
